Google Recruiting Search Engine Marketers

Who isn’t? Let’s face it, it’s old news that search engine marketers are few and far between. So what does it come down to, marketing backgrounds? Computer science backgrounds? English degrees? What do you recommend someone have work experience in to get a job in search engine marketing? Personally, I look for no experience. I don’t want someone to come in with a marketing degree with grand ideas of designing elaborate ads. It’s very hard to get inspired over 35 characters. I don’t want someone coming in with a computer science degree & ideas of programming greatness only to be disappointed with keyword searching and then ultimately being moved over to the IT department. I would much rather have someone with some internet experience, some excel experience, a good work ethic, and an open mind to learn new things. No expectations, and not necessisarily a university degree.
Now, all I need is the time to train them…………
