All the free stuff!

It’s not the great professional opportunities, it’s not the bird of a feather lunches, it’s not the great people and colleagues I am likely to meet, it’s not all the informative seminars, and it is certainly not the parties! It’s the expo and the free mouse pads, sticky pads, pens, mints, keychains, t-shirts, coasters, mugs, and the list goes on.

So, why do these search engine marketing companies give out all this ‘crap’? Because according to MarketingSherpa.com,

76.1% of consumers studied said they could remember the brand name of a company that gave them a promotional item in the past year verus 53% who could remember a TV or print ad from the past month, and only 27% recalled an online ad.

Based on research done by Analyst Hope Hopkins, the article also relays some interesting figures behind promo products:

Long lasting/repeat exposure - 73% used it once a week
Increase of company image - 76.3% had a favorable impression of the advertiser after receiving
Generation of business - 52% did business with the company that gave the product

Just to name a few…

So why are Search Engine Strategy New York vendors handing out promotional products by the bus load? Because people like me spend thousands every day on related products and wear a Google t-shirt at the gym.
